For the first time since his ‘Loose Women’ interview last year, Paul has sat down with The Guardian ahead of an upcoming television appearance later this week!

We have taken away key points from the interview.

  • Paul nearly didn’t end up in S Club 7 stating: “I honestly was very unsure,” he says. “I’ve been asked so many times, ‘Were you sitting by the phone, just waiting?’ But when they did phone me up and offer it to me – ‘Hi, we’re so pleased to …’ – I remember putting the phone down and going: ‘I don’t know if I want to do that.’ I turned to my friends and said: ‘If I do this, my life is never going to be the same again.’”
  • Paul didn’t sing or dance during his audition for the band: “‘We have picked certain people to do certain roles.’ I can only assume that mine was to answer questions in interviews. I was never asked to show, in the audition process, my singing, my ability to dance – my ability for anything, other than talking.”
  • The band didn’t want “You” to be the follow-up single following the success of both “Don’t Stop Movin'” and “Have You Ever”, confirming a previous rumor that the band preferred “Show Me Your Colors” (or possibly even “Stronger”). He also cites this as a contributing factor in his decision to leave the band.
  • Paul admits that his relationship with former band mate Hannah Spearritt was “not organic” stating he was forced into the relationship “…I had totally grown into the idea, quite quickly. I thought she was great.”
  • Currently, Paul works as a manager at a radio station in Swanage, in Dorset, where his family is based.
  • Paul has been approached regarding a reunion, but stated that the manager was “rude and offensive” he continues by stating “It’s such a shame that the whole thing has been crushed and crushed and crushed … I’ve been in meetings and they’ve said, ‘No but Paul, legacy, legacy, legacy, you’ve got to do the gig because it’s the legacy.’ – “The music’s there, the TV shows are there – that’s the legacy.” 
  • Paul will appear on Channel 4’s “First Dates Hotel” this Thursday (September 12th)
